Veronica Swales was raised in Longview, Alberta where her parents trainers hunter/jumpers, pleasure horses, and ran a few cows. She started showing young, competing in everything from hunter/jumpers to pleasure, barrel racing to team roping, and cutting. When she was around 13, she began to show in the working cow horse and became a successful non pro in the early 2000s. She worked as an assistant to her older brother, John Swales, developing her skills and training techniques. In 2011, Veronica made the move from a non pro to professional rider, specializing in barrel racing, cutting, and working cow horse.
In 2020, Veronica moved to Texas and has continued to be a force in the show pen. In 2021, she rode Desires Sweet Pepto to both the NRCHA Stakes Limited Open Championship and NRCHA Western Derby Limited Open Championship. She has successfully continued to run barrels, with great showings at Ruby Buckle and more.
