About Craig Schmersal

Craig Schmersal has been competing at the top level of NRHA competition for over two decades. He has won almost every major title and is ranked Number 3 NRHA All-Time Leading Rider. However, one title had eluded him, the NRHA Futurity Open Championship. He had been in the finals several times and had regularly placed in the top 5. That all changed in 2017, when Craig claimed the NRHA Futurity Level 4 Open Championship aboard Face The Attitude - a homebred mare who’s sire and dam Craig had won on. Over the course of his career, Craig has earned over $4 Million in NRHA competition. Craig and Boom Shernic earned more than $275,000 together, winning the NRBC Open Classic Championship and the NRHA Open Derby Reserve Championship. And, riding Mister Montana Nic, Craig was part of Team USA at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky where he won Team Gold and Individual Silver medals. And, with Commander Nic, Craig won the 2004 NRHA Open Derby Championship. Craig also won the Gold Medal at the 2005 FEI World Reining Masters Open Division in Spain riding Tidal Wave Jack. Craig hit the first Million Dollar Rider mark riding Whizs Katrina, owned by John and Brenda Stephenson. Craig won numerous AQHA and NRHA Open World Championships, along with being the inaugural The Run For A Million Co-Champion.
